Episode 4 Deconstructed: Sang Hoon’s Shame

I just finished Episode 4 and after sobbing and laughing then sobbing again…I realised this: Episode 1-2 were thrilling and exciting and made me think it was some kind of thriller/corporate mystery.  But episode 4 was when the show sank its claws into me. And I didn’t even realise it then, because it was done so, so subtly through the use of wiretapping/flashbacks.

EPISODE 4 IS A STORY IN ITSELF: Sang Hoon’s Shame

I just want to deconstruct how the writer did it because she built up the tension and suspense so beautifully until that dramatic climax.

Why Is Ajusshi Avoiding Jung Hee’s Bar Completely?

At the time of this discussion, Soompi members had not yet noticed the calendar on the  wall of Jung Hee’s bedroom.  We all had no idea that Dong Hoon avoids the bar for at least a whole month if not longer, showing an incredible amount of self restraint.  And how puzzling his behavior must have seemed to the bar friends who tend to overreact when things are even just a little out of the ordinary.

Hoogye-dong, the neighborhood in which the three ahjussi brothers are born and raised, is a fictional place created by screenwriter Park Hae Young exclusively for My Ahjussi. Although ‘it is said to exist at the “mouth” of Seoul’, some of the key locations in the drama series, such as Jung Hee’s bar and Sang Hoon and Ki Hoon’s cleaning company, are actually located outside Seoul city.
